Import and China-Sourcing Tests for Qatar Founders

A small import test can teach a Qatar founder more than a large first shipment. Treat sourcing as a sequence of checks for demand, quality, landed cost and reliable replenishment.

Validate the complete landed cost

Price the item after supplier terms, freight, insurance, customs, storage, payment fees, returns and local delivery. Request samples and a written specification. Check whether the product needs approvals or special handling before you advertise it. Compare at least two suppliers and keep a record of lead times and defect rates.

Protect the experiment

  • Pre-sell a limited quantity or collect qualified expressions of interest.
  • Use inspection criteria that another person can repeat.
  • Set a maximum cash exposure before placing the order.
  • Plan what happens to slow-moving or defective stock.

The first shipment is a learning project. Reorder only when quality, margin and delivery reliability are proven with real Qatar customers.
