Review Older Content Like a Product That Needs Clarification

An article does not become weak merely because it is old. It may contain a durable idea, outdated instructions or substantial overlap with another page. The decision should begin with its function for the reader.

Classify before changing

Identify material worth updating, combining or retiring. Review accuracy, links, title clarity and the question being answered. Low traffic alone does not justify removal if a page serves a small, valuable audience.

Imagine three general articles repeating similar marketing mistakes. Combining the useful material into one coherent resource may be better than renaming each and preserving duplication. Where URLs change, assess existing links and plan an appropriate transition.

Make updates substantive

Do not change dates to imply freshness without meaningful revision. Record additions and corrections and verify supporting sources. Preserve limitations attached to the original evidence.

Use a recurring, bounded review process. A smaller, coherent collection can serve readers better than an expanding archive of competing pages. Content management resembles product management: each page needs an audience, a reason to exist and someone accountable for the quality of its promise. Maintenance protects the value of publishing work already completed.
